Hi, I'm Liz, Teen Librarian at Dover Public Library in the small town of Dover, Ohio. This fall, we are doing a series of creative story-telling workshops on creative writing, art, video making, and stop motion animation. The series will end in a screening event on Teen Read Week.

My name is Pamela Rellstab and I am the teen librarian for the Defiance Public Library System. There are a total of three libraries within the system, Defiance Public Library [main], Sherwood Branch Library, and Johnson Memorial Library. Defiance County is located in rural northwest Ohio with a population of 39,000.

Because of the diverse interests among the teens, it was important to separate the teen groups in each library location and host activities that would be tailored to their passions. Teens will be encouraged to “Unleash Your Story” by writing, telling, and sharing stories through the varied mediums of video games, pixilation, and role-playing tabletop games.

At Defiance Public Library, teens will partake in role-playing tabletop games. In addition to playing, they will film their game play and post on the Defiance Public Library System YouTube channel. [Think Geek & Sundry.]

At Johnson Memorial Library, teens will learn the art form of machinima and create a machinima film using Minecraft. The film will be posted on our YouTube channel. [Think Red vs. Blue by Rooster Teeth.]

At Sherwood Branch Library, teens will learn the art form of pixilation, a stop-motion animation using people, and film their own pixilation. The film will then be uploaded to our YouTube channel.

Finally, to reach all area teens, all three locations will be hosting a Teen Read-In. During this time Defiance Public Library System will “unleash our story” by showcasing the teen spaces, resources, and activities. Teens will be afforded the opportunity to explore the library, read, Skype with authors, and tell us how we can better serve them and vice versa. In addition, the first ten teens to arrive for the author Skype will receive a free copy of his or her title. All teens will be given a loot bag.

That sounds awesome, Pamela! I'm so excited that they'll be learning the fine art of machinima. Are you going to have them add audio? You'll have to excuse the Geek-out. I used to make videos using Sims 2. :)
